HIGH SCHOOL CYO
This weekend (Feb. 6-7) is Super Bowl Weekend.
It is also the annual Souper Bowl of Caring weekend. After all of the Masses this weekend, members of the Highschool CYO will be collecting non-perishable food products for the Upper Darby Food Bank, and monetary donations to help their selected charity this year - Covenant House.  Covenant House shelters feeds, clothes, and helps runaway teenagers who have been abused physically, sexually and mentally.  They come from uncaring and abusive homes, and have nowhere to turn - no one to help them, and no one who cares.  Teenagers are our future.  We are blessed to have many caring teens in our parish.  But they realize there are many who do not have the benefits of a caring and nurturing home, and they want to help them.  But they can only help them because of your generosity.

Prayer for Priests

Ever-living God and Father of us all,
you give to your Church
the Priesthood of your Son, Jesus
and by the power of the Holy Spirit,
you provide holy priests for a holy people.

We pray for all our priests, who announce the
Word of God and celebrate the Sacraments,
for those who are young and those
who are old, for those who serve
in difficult and trying circumstances,
for those who are faithful and those who are
faltering, and for those who have died.

We entrust all our priests to the Sacred Heart
of Jesus and to the Immaculate Heart of Mary
that they may persevere with fidelity to you
and to your Church.
With Saint John Vianney, patron of priests,
we pray that our priests may never fail
to lead us to you.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

February Schedule

February 7, 2010

The Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Collect: Father, watch over your family and keep us safe in your care, for all our hope is in you. Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

The Gospel is a reading from St. Luke (Lk 5:1-11). After reading from the scroll of Isaiah in the synagogue in Nazareth, Jesus went to Capernaum where he taught in the synagogue on the Sabbath and cast out a demon, then He went to Simon's house and healed his mother-in-law, healed many, casting out demons for some. The next day He went to a remote spot but the crowds followed Him. Jesus then told the crowds that He must give the good news in other towns also because that is what He was sent to do. Today's reading, which is Simon's call to be an apostle, takes place at the Sea of Gennesaret (Galilee). The early Church fathers saw in Simon's boat a symbol of the pilgrim church on earth. Christ got into the boat in order to teach the crowds; and from the barque of Peter, the Church, He continues to teach the whole world.

A NOTE FROM THE PASTOR
Luke 5:1-11

Today’s theme from Sacred Scripture was a frequent if not central theme in the life of Pope John Paul II.  Prompted by the grace of the Holy Spirit, we have been strengthened not to be afraid,  have courage and risk setting out into the deep waters of charity, realizing that everything we have is a gift from God.  These three teachings come from Christ.  First, Be Not Afraid.  Second, Set Out Into the Deep.  Third, the gift you have received, give as a gift.  God bless you as you set out.                                     Fr. Gerlach
